Colossal cave game map9/13/2023 Although it is based on a real cave system, it contains a few fantasy elements such as a crystal bridge, magic words, and axe-wielding dwarves. The original 1976 version of the game contains five treasures which can be collected. The program's replies are typically in a humorous, conversational tone, much as a Dungeon Master would use in leading players in a tabletop role-playing game. If it does not understand the player's commands, it asks for the player to retype their actions. The program acts as a narrator, describing to the player their location in the cave and the results of certain actions. There are dozens of rooms, each of which has a name such as "Debris Room" and a description, and may contain objects or obstacles. The allowable commands are contextual to the location, or room, the player is in for example, "get lamp" only has an effect if there is a lamp present. The player types in one- or two-word commands to move their character through the cave system, interact with objects in the cave, pick up items to put into their inventory, and perform other actions. The player must explore the cave system and solve puzzles by using items that they find to obtain the treasures and leave the cave. Gameplay Colossal Cave Adventure running on a PDP-11/34 with a monitor, showing the point systemĬolossal Cave Adventure is a text-based adventure game wherein the player explores a mysterious cave that is rumored to be filled with treasure and gold. It has been noted as one of the most influential video games, and in 2019 was inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame by The Strong and the International Center for the History of Electronic Games. It also influenced the creation of the MUD and computer role-playing game genres. It directly inspired the creation of numerous games, including Zork (1977), Adventureland (1978), Mystery House (1980), Rogue (1980), and Adventure (1980), which went on to be the foundations of the interactive fiction, adventure, roguelike, and action-adventure genres. Both versions, typically played over teleprinters connected to mainframe computers, were spread around the nascent ARPANET, the precursor to the Internet, which Crowther was involved in developing.Ĭolossal Cave Adventure was one of the first teletype games and was massively popular in the computer community of the late 1970s, with numerous ports and modified versions being created based on Woods's source code. Woods's version expanded the game in size and increased the number of fantasy elements present in it, such as a dragon and magic spells. The original game, written in 19, was based on Crowther's maps and experiences caving in Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, the longest cave system in the world further, it was intended, in part, to be accessible to non-technical players, such as his two daughters. It is the first well-known example of interactive fiction, as well as the first well-known adventure game, for which it was also the namesake. The program acts as a narrator, describing the player's location and the results of the player's attempted actions. The game is composed of dozens of locations, and the player moves between these locations and interacts with objects in them by typing one- or two-word commands which are interpreted by the game's natural language input system. In the game, the player explores a cave system rumored to be filled with treasure and gold. It was expanded upon in 1977 by Don Woods. Colossal Cave Adventure (also known as Adventure or ADVENT) is a text-based adventure game, released in 1976 by developer Will Crowther for the PDP-10 mainframe computer.

Redux toolkit chrome9/13/2023 > There's one quick question before we go. It's a trade off, right? There's definitely trade-offs to using Redux, that's really what I want you to see Okay, any questions about Redux before we move on? If you either like it too much or not at all, I feel like I didn't do it. If I imparted that to you, I feel like I did my job. Some of that was really cool, that was a lot of work. Okay, questions about Redux? I'm hoping the feeling that you have right now is mixed. This is so much better than writing raw Redux, but if you want to, it's here. You can do that if you are a glutton for pain. I did teach a raw Redux before, so this is gonna go through the exact same pet adoption application with raw Redux. If you wanna see this exact same scenario that I did, look at this handsome bastard up there. > Even better, so if you want even more advanced stuff on Redux toolkit itself, check that out as well. > He's also about to release an advanced Redux, using Redux toolkit. If you want deeper dives on this, there's a Redux Fundamentals course from Mr. Okay, so that's Redux, that's Redux dev tools. Pretty cool, right? Pretty compelling debugging tools, so. So you can literally time travel through your user crashing their application. You can then take that dump and you can put it into your dev tools, and you can literally go piece by piece of what your user did to cause the crash. What I've seen people do is dump their entire history of Redux, and then they'll send it off to Track js or century or something like that. Let's say your user's application crashes, right? So one thing that I have seen people do, which I found very interesting and a compelling use case of, what the Redux toolkits can do for you or just in general Redux. I've not found a use for that, but that's pretty cool. And you can see the actual Stack trace to see what led you to call into that. There's a state, there's a difference, so you can see, what was the delta between the two? So I went from animal to being nothing to being dog. We're about to do V test for our testing framework, just use the Jest one if you're doing V test. But it's a good starter, right? This is a Jest template, but there's one for Mocha and Tape and Ava. I like when my tools write tests for me, right? Now, I'm gonna argue, this is a ridiculous test, look at how much stuff it's trying to put into my test. First of all, you can do things like jump to this one, you can also say, hey, what would happen if this action didn't happen? You can click Skip, and it'll reapply everything and skip that action, it's kind of interesting, right? And then another thing here, I can click Test, it'll actually generate a test for me that I can just copy and paste into my code, which is pretty cool. This gives me a bunch of meta information of, when did it happen, what was the query, what were the arguments, what was the requestId? Did it work? Did it not work? One of my favorite things here, so let's go look at one of them that we created, like the searchParams/all one that I did, this one. I can always go in and I can reset things, I can see what the actions looked like, so you can see what was in the payload. So if I go back here, I can actually click Play, and it'll just go at a rate and I can watch things playing out in my, Time traveling debugging is what that's called. What's cool about this, though, is I can start stepping back in time Because what it's doing is it's basically just reapplying or un-applying all these various different actions. But you can see step by step of what's going on. And if I click Submit, you can see it calls searchParam'all, then it does unsubscribing and pending and fulfilled and a bunch of stuff like that. So it executes that, and you see fulfilled, and I can see all the various different actions coming in, right? So let's say I change this to be dog, that's gonna dispatch an action, actually it won't. You can see all of these various different actions that are coming in from petAPI, these are generated by Redux tool. This is probably one of the other most compelling parts about Redux, is I can actually see everything happening inside of my Redux via this, right? So right now, I'm looking at all the actions that are coming in. Okay, that's been added here, and now if I refresh my page, I should have in here Redux pane. I think I have to go install it for Chrome, so let me go do that really quick. I left a link here for Firefox and for Chrome. So I left you a link here, go install the Redux dev tools. Let's go back to the notes here, and we're gonna go down to Redux here, at the Redux dev tool. > One last thing that I wanted to show you. Transcript from the "Redux Dev Tools" Lesson

Operation phantom fury qutoes9/13/2023 Real genuine flesh and blood f**kin’ phantoms carried for nine months by the women of Fallujah. The phantoms, the Phantom Furies for real. And that’s when it started, man, that’s when it started. “So I felt like a f**king Olympic champion, fit for a marathon when I saw what happened next. You meet your buddy who lost his bollocks, well you feel like hopping up and down on your stump with delight, you know? I’d be a liar if I said I didnae feel sorry for myself, but you know what – and I learnt this in the army – misery is f**kin’ relative. Now my memory is all f**ked, and that’s the best part of me. “So when all the dust had settled, so to speak, and I went home, I began to feel like sh*te. Just like there was nae proof of Agent Orange, nae proof of Gulf War Syndrome. But there’s nae proof by the way, there’s nae proof at all. And that’s what did it for me breathing in all the Superman dust, in fabulous multi-coloured Fallujah. “So every round, tens of thousands of the bastards over the years, from tanks to cannons, vaporising, spreading the sh*te on every puffy wind and turning the cradle of civilisation into one big dirty bomb site festering with cancer. That’s a f**kin’ long time, even for a mountain. So on impact 70% vaporises, it turns into dust including uranium oxide, which has a half-life of 4.5 billion years. But just one teeny, weeny, wee key fact they kept under their caps. Do you remember that small fry, slimy wee c*nt Geoff Hoon, Ministry of Defence? Astonishingly effective he said. “I’m no as thick as I look, eh? Well we dropped thousands of tonnes of this sh*t. A wee question for youse, what flies faster than Superman but is 1.7 times denser than lead? What burns at 10,000 degrees centigrade on impact? What slices through armoured metal and fries the bastards inside? What penetrates a bunker where the forces of evil wank in the dark? Anyone? Depleted uranium munitions, DU ordinance. It’s about penetration, and the army are really big on penetration. See life is in the detail, as the Devil well knows. Now this is where I need to get a wee bit technical. We were sent north to back up the gringos, cut off the rat runs of the ragheads, Dogwood Camp no far from Fallujah. Anyway, see me and my fellow squaddies, we had a grand view of Operation Phantom Fury. “But I still blame the f**kin’ parents, did I tell youse that? I mean, if they’d just listened to their ain f**kin’ doctors, they were well told man. It’s so long ago my f**kin’ memory’s going, you see, I breathed in some of that sh*t too and I get mixed up. So they baptised it Operation Phantom Fury, and that’s not a joke by the way. “Well I’ll let youse into a wee secret, armies never use a smelly word, like ‘aftershave’. ‘Before you start your journey of revenge dig two graves – Confucius.’ I’m not a wordy prick, but the chaplain, he gave me a wee quote that stuck in my head. It’s a word you can feel too, it’s a sort of nasty rumbling in your gut. I mean, it’s the only word you can smell and by Christ did it stink. And as I saw those bodies sway I knew it wouldnae be long. “And that’s heroic, huh? I still had life in me then, Fallujah, Iraq, 25 years ago. As they delivered a set of f**kin’ cupboards. Remember the American contractors who got lost in Fallujah? Down the wrong street, round the wrong corner, mobbed by the Iraqis, pulled from their motors: stripped, torn, lynched and hung. It all started with the delivery of kitchen equipment. “ Kitchen equipment, I mean it’s f**kin’ hilarious man. If ya didn’t want wee uns keep your tadger to yourself. Nae shagging, I mean, it’s not that f**kin’ hard to understand is it. I mean f**k’s sake, they were well worn spelt out so even a f**kin’ Arab could catch on. But first thing’s first, I blame the parents. “F**kin’ break your heart that, eh? Nothing like a wee song and a wee dram to get youse going, huh? I was that soldier. Jamie Michie reads an extract of Paul Laverty’s work, after a musical piece The Green Hills of Tyrol. And so, here we are, I hope, 19 years into the future. So you’ve got to imagine this is not 29 September 2011 but 29 September 2030, and Jamie is not a handsome young man as he is, but a grizzled old ex-soldier. So Jamie – he got this at really short notice – I’m so grateful that he’s decided to help us out. I’m always fascinated by what public memory is, and what anniversaries are, and who’s remembered and who’s not. It was written in a blur, very quickly, and I felt some compulsion to get it out on 11 September 2011. It’ll take about ten minutes so there’s not even enough time to fall asleep. I couldn’t give a lecture to save myself, so my friend Jamie Michie – a wonderful actor I had the great privilege to meet on Route Irish – is going to help us out. As Jeremy said, it’s such a beautiful evening. Paul Laverty: First of all, thanks very much for turning up.

James Wherry, commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 448th CA Bn., this was an opportunity for the units’ low density Soldiers to gain invaluable experience. Old fashioned hand held food chopper9/12/2023 No matter which one you choose, your food prep time is sure to be significantly reduced. They are perfect for basic food chopping needs or for mincing, dicing, or pureeing anything from fruits, vegetables, and nuts to herbs and spices or for making bread and cracker crumbs.įood choppers come in a variety of types and sizes. These choppers often come with a pulse setting so you can choose just how finely chopped your food needs to be. These are great for quick chopping of fruits, vegetables, or nuts and can even be used for mincing.įor those with more versatile cooking needs, electric food choppers or miniature food processors are good options. Hand-slap choppers are popular because they are quick and easy to use, don't require a power source, and are generally dishwasher safe and easy to clean. That's why food choppers are a popular kitchen appliance. While many experienced chefs prefer the precision and control they get with a well-sharpened knife, the average person doesn't have the time or energy to expertly hone his kitchen skills. There are a number of food choppers on the market that range from old fashioned hand choppers to miniature and large food processors. Most food choppers will chop nearly anything, including ice. To that end, we added the Proctor Silex Durable, a space-saving design perfect for small apartments and studios.Ī food chopper does exactly what its name implies: it chops food. The Ultra Chef Express is another manual option that's extremely versatile, as it comes with several attachments that allow it to perform seven functions.Īlthough we love the Chef'n VeggiChop, it's too similar in design to the Zyliss Manual Processor and Brieftons Blender, and we felt that this list could use a compact, electric, economically-priced option instead. If you're looking for peace of mind, the Zyliss unit offers an unprecedented five-year guarantee. If you're looking for something that doesn't require a power outlet to work, the Brieftons Blender, Pampered Chef Cutting Edge, and Zyliss Manual Processor are all excellent choices, with the Pampered Chef model, in particular, made to last for years and years. Our priorities for this list included durability, generous warranties, value for money, ease of use, efficacy, and size. They're user-friendly, easy to maintain, and generally compact in size, making them ideal for small spaces and novice cooks. These handy little devices are powered manually or electronically and can handle basic prep tasks that free up your time and allow you to plan meals. When you want something simpler and smaller than your typical food processor, a straightforward food chopper is the way to go. It can also come into contact with tomatoes and citrus without any issues. The LinkChef, on the other hand, is easy to use, reliable, and unlike many others, comes with a long-lasting stainless steel bowl that won't chip or crack. The Pampered Chef is still a tried and true option that lasts a good while, with plenty of pleased owners who will sing its praises, but it's just too simplistic, with an uninspired design and high price point that make it an ill-suited choice for many households. We also added the LinkChef Robust today and said goodbye to the Pampered Chef Cutting Edge to do so. The KitchenAid is a bit more versatile, with two speed functions and a pulse option, and an integrated drizzle basin that offers a smarter and more efficient design. If you're trying to decide between the KitchenAid model and the Cuisinart Plus, it might just come down to aesthetics, as the Cuisinart has a slightly more powerful motor by about ten watts, but a slightly smaller capacity at three cups. For soft foods like cooked chicken and hardboiled eggs, it's hard to beat. That being said, there are certain hard or large fruits and vegetables that will require a kitchen knife to slice them into more manageable parts before you get to chopping. We like the Kwik-Kut for its simplicity and elegance, and it is surprisingly capable considering the old-school design. You'll find compact electric units and manual options with a variety of features and constructions, from the very simplistic Kwik-Kut Deluxe, which we added when the Brieftons Blender became unavailable, to the feature-rich KitchenAid Mini, a reliable selection included at the expense of the Hamilton Beach Stack. While there are tons of food choppers flooding the market, there are only so many distinctive designs and methods for chopping that are efficient, and we've done our best to ensure a diversity of what's available with the best models listed here.

Download newshosting newsreader9/12/2023 We are a thriving community dedicated to helping users old and new understand and use usenet. The result is a remarkably easy way to download binaries.Welcome to the usenet subreddit. These NZB only newsreaders allowed users to integrate index searches into the newsreader. The improvement in download speed was so significant that NZB-only newsreaders began to appear. Indexing sites began to provide searchable lists of NZBs. Using the Extensible Markup Language, newsreaders could quickly find the components of large binaries and put them together. When this occurs, it is a problem with the NZB, not the newsreader.Īll in all, NZBs were an incredible Usenet innovation. If the they’re old or bad, they will have incorrect message IDs and will be unable to locate the messages that contain the binaries you are looking for. No cutting or pasting or even un-zipping is necessary. Once your download is completed, the newsreader will automatically assemble the binary for you. Downloading an NZBĭownloading NZBs is very easy with these newsreaders. Most newsreaders work with NZBs, though some may not. Users could simply search indexing sites or integrated NZB newsreaders for binaries without having to browse groups to find what they wanted. This cut out the need for newsgroups entirely. Indexing sites provided easy-to-search collections of NZBs. Instead, they simply wanted to locate individual binaries. Some users, for example, did not enjoy sorting through newsgroups. Newsreaders that did not support traditional newsgroups and articles started to become extremely popular. NZBs became so popular that newsreaders started to specialize in them, while other sites specialized in indexing them. became incredibly popular, until they closed shop in 2012, but they forever changed Usenet. People could search for what they wanted, instead of only being able to search by group. In this way, Usenet became much more like the World Wide Web. They developed the format and also created an indexing system to search for NZBs. The first site to popularize the NZB format was. The result was a revolution in the way we use Usenet. This particular innovation made it much easier and faster to download binaries. NZBs take the small individual parts of a broken up binary and provide the information to assemble them together again after the download has been completed. But thankfully, large binaries can be broken into multiple smaller messages. That means you download the header and everything else that comes with it. Normally when you download a Usenet binary, you download it like a regular message. Binaries, the NZB Format, and SearchingĪn NZB allows for faster downloads of binaries. This innovation was not radical in terms of computer science, but it had far reaching implications for Usenet and the internet. The XML formats these message IDs so that an NZB-compatible newsreader can find all the parts of a binary in their associated Usenet messages. There, you will be able to see all the message IDs associated with the binary you want to download. If you would like, you can open an NZB in Notepad or Microsoft Word. They will look like a page of HTML in that the text is specifically formatted to be read by a program or application.Ī markup language puts text in a particular format, often called a syntax, that makes it readable by a computer application. That means NZBs are plain text and can be viewed with a word processor. This language encodes a document in a way that is readable to both humans and machines. What does that mean? XML stands for Extensible Markup Language. NZBs can be a little intimidating at first but once you get acclimated, they’re incredibly simple. If you want to download binaries, NZBs are the best way to go. Today, you can find newsreaders that specialize in NZBs, like the Newshosting client. They allow a newsreader to quickly find all the different parts of a single binary and compile those parts in the correct order. One of the common questions for new Usenet users is: “What is an NZB?” To put it simply, NZBs make downloading big binaries very easy. |
